Harold P. Schiefelbein

Harold Paul Schiefelbein, 77, of rural Sumner, passed away at his home on Friday, March 16, 2018.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2018, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Chapel in Sumner with Rev. Joel Becker officiating. Visitation will follow at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Per Harold’s request, his body has been cremated.

Harold was born on March 20, 1940, in rural Sumner, the son of Oscar and Carol (Summers) Schiefelbein. On June 18, 1961, he was united in marriage to Elaine Seehase (daughter of Edwin and Margaret (Warnke) Seehase) at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union, three children were born, Randy, Kelly, and Jim. The couple and their family made their home on the Schiefelbein family farm for their entire married life. Harold worked hard on the farm raising corn, beans, hay, and milking Jersey dairy cattle. It was truly a family operation as his children had many fond memories of helping on the farm. Eventually, he sold the dairy cattle and then crop farmed until retirement. Harold was extremely proud of his children and their many accomplishments. It especially made him very happy over the past several years as his son, Jim, has rented the farmland and kept the family farm intact. Not to mention, this still allowed him the chance to pitch in and help with field work whenever he physically was able. Even though Harold worked hard on the farm, he was never too busy for a game of cards. He could routinely be found at either Oran or Westgate with his “card buddies” playing cards daily. Over the years, many of his “card buddies” have also gone to eternal rest. There is no doubt right now, there is a very lively and spirited game of cards taking place in heaven. Harold was also involved in his community as he served as a Director on the Oran Mutual Telephone Board from 1979-2002.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elaine of rural Sumner; two sons, Randy (Connie) Schiefelbein and Jim (Kathy) Schiefelbein, both of rural Sumner; daughter, Kelly (Ron) Richards of Fairbank; five grandchildren that he loved dearly, Kylee Schiefelbein, Kaitlyn Schiefelbein, Nathan (Heather) Richards, Aaron Richards, and Erica Schiefelbein; one great-grandson, Raegan Richards (the grandchildren loved his sense of humor and how grandpa had the uncanny knack of wiggling his ears at them); one sister, Verna Kerns of Westgate; brother-in-law, Melvin (Bonnie) Seehase of Sumner; two sisters-in-law, LaVera (Jerry) Jensen of Council Bluffs and Marlene (Robert) Clowers of Galena Park, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Alvin who died in infancy and Charles.
